Activity

Our clinical research is concerned with the complexity of diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. In particular, the research group deals with the problem of Bipolar Disorder’s course, with specific attention to atypical and unstable manifestations; seasonality; juvenile onset; early detection; psychiatric comorbidities (both Axis I - specifically with anxiety disorders - and Axis II); medical comorbidity (especially with the metabolic syndrome); behavioral aspects; quality of life.

From the pharmacotherapeutic viewpoint we focus on the pharmacological treatment of comorbidities and on the management of long-term treatment in its prognostic implications, payng special attention to tolerability.

With regard to the psychotherapeutic aspects, the Group deals with the effectiveness of psychoeducation for bipolar patients. We also focus on the study of treatment resistant Major Depression: its clinical and prognostic aspects, comorbidity with anxiety disorders and somatoform disorders, the psychopharmacological treatment and the use of short dynamic psychotherapy.

Both Major Depression and bipolar disorder are subject to important research, focusing on diagnosis, treatment and management of psychiatric disorders during peri-conceptional period, pregnancy and postpartum.

We study the biological markers of psychiatric disorders, in collaboration with the University of Brescia - IRCCS Fatebenefratelli, Unit of Neuropsychopharmacology.
