Activity

Our group is interested in understanding how the environment or external stimulations can affect brain connectivity, plasticity and behavior, through gene expression regulation during normal development or in neurological development disorders models, and in drug addictions. In our laboratory we combine high resolution microscopy techniques (electronic and confocal microscopy) with molecular, electrophysiological, biochemical and behavioral approaches in order to explain the processes underlying the brain function in normal conditions and during diseases. Our group has a recognized experience in describing the neurological disorders associated with gene mutations that underlie the crucial synaptic functions in several neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer 's disease, Niemann-Pick disease and Rett Syndrome.
