Activity

The research focuses mainly on clinical characterization and treatment of obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders (including Hoarding Disorder) and anxiety disorders:

• epidemiology, with particular reference to the prevalence in adolescents;

• onset: phenotypic subtyping of the disorder by onset age (symptoms and disorder).

• familiarity and phenomenological expressiveness differences between familiar and non familiar forms;

• long-term treatment, and prognostic factors of remission and relapse;

• treatment of resistant forms, especially with atypical antipsychotics and cognitive-behavioral therapy;

• strategies to reduce latency of action of serotonergic antidepressants;

• involvement of family members and their quality of life: a psychoeducational intervention addressed to the family has been developed; its effectiveness both for family members and patients is being verified;

• studies of Neuroimmunology: comorbidity between neurological symptoms and surveys on anti-CNS antibodies presence in the  in adult;

• prevalence of the metabolic syndrome;

• influence of affective temperaments on the clinical expression of the disease and study of the relationship between obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders and anxiety disorders, on the one hand, and bipolar disorders, on the other hand.
